Sometimes traditional therapy rooms can feel confining. Sometimes being outside, moving your body, and connecting with nature opens something up. Walk & Talk Therapy combines therapeutic support with gentle walks in London’s parks and green spaces.
If you find sitting in a therapy room difficult, if you’re feeling isolated, or if being in nature helps you feel more grounded, this might be for you.
Therapy that happens while walking. You’ll meet with a walking group at a safe location and walk to a local London park. Walks include different reflective themes each week.
Walking side-by-side, rather than sitting face-to-face, can feel less intense. Being outdoors, surrounded by nature, can help you feel more relaxed and open. The rhythm of walking can make difficult conversations feel more manageable. These walks also offer an opportunity to meet with other women who understand what you’ve been through.
This is open to women only (18+) who are survivors of abuse.
Meeting point -We’ll arrange to meet at a safe location. For your safety, we share the exact location only with those who have registered and had their identities verified.
The walk – We’ll walk at a gentle pace through to a local park for 30 minutes to an hour. You can talk about whatever feels right, or sometimes you might just want to walk quietly. That’s okay too.
Your pace -We go at your pace, both physically and emotionally. If you need to slow down, stop, or take a break, that’s fine.
We choose parks carefully to ensure they’re safe, accessible spaces. We walk in public parks during daylight hours. To keep walks safe for female survivors of abuse, we share the exact location only with those who have registered and had their identities verified.
What you share during your walk remains confidential, with the same limited exceptions as any therapy (if there’s immediate risk to you or someone else).
Walk & Talk can be something you do as a specific activity, or alongside 1:1 counselling. We'll discuss what works best for you. The walking group is led by one of our counsellors, but is very different to 1:1 counselling; this is a group activity where you can really benefit from being with others, and being in nature.
Walking in nature can be healing, even if you choose not to talk. Some people enjoy talking on the walk, others simply like to walk in silence. You can choose whether you wish to talk or not.
We'll check the weather forecast. If it's raining, we will advise appropriate rainwear. If it's raining heavily or unsafe to walk, we can reschedule or have an indoor session instead.
No. We walk at a gentle, comfortable pace. If you have mobility issues or health concerns, let us know and we can discuss whether Walk & Talk would work for you.
We walk in public parks, so this is possible. You're not obligated to explain who you're with or what you're doing. Many people walk and talk with friends or in groups, it doesn't look any different.
Yes, these are group walks for survivors. The walks are a chance to meet like-minded women in a safe, supportive environment.
