Individual Counselling

If you’ve survived abuse, you might be carrying things that feel too heavy to hold alone. Maybe you’re struggling with anxiety, flashbacks, or sleepless nights. Perhaps you’re feeling disconnected from yourself, numb, or like you’re just going through the motions.

Trauma can affect many aspects of your life, your relationships, your sense of self, your ability to feel safe in the world. Healing takes time, and it needs a space where you can bring all of yourself.

Our Individual Counselling service provides long-term, trauma-responsive therapy with qualified counsellors who understand not just trauma, but the cultural and religious contexts that shape your experience.

What We Offer

One-to-one therapy with a qualified counsellor, offered in person or online. Sessions last 50 minutes and are usually weekly, with up to 24 sessions available.

What Happens in Counselling?

This is your time and space. You set the pace. Your counsellor will listen without judgement, help you make sense of your experiences, work with you to process trauma safely, and support you to develop ways of coping.

Whether faith is a source of strength, something complicated, or not part of your life at all, you’re welcome here. Many of our counsellors share similar faith backgrounds to our clients and understand the nuances.

You’re in control. You don’t have to talk about anything you’re not ready for. Building safety and trust comes first.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Service

Is counselling really free?

Yes, our core counselling service is completely free. We believe financial barriers shouldn't prevent anyone from accessing support.

Waiting times vary depending on demand and your specific needs. We prioritise those at highest risk. We'll be honest about timescales when you contact us. During your wait, you may be offered support from our Advocacy and Support team.

We are not able to offer a choice of counsellor, however we carefully match you with a counsellor based on your needs, preferences, language requirements and availability

We offer counselling in multiple languages including Arabic, Urdu, Bengali, and others. Let us know your language preference when you contact us.

About the Counselling Itself

What is trauma-responsive counselling?

It's an approach that understands how trauma affects your whole being; body, mind, emotions, and spirit. We work at your pace, with deep understanding of trauma's impacts, always prioritising your safety and control over the process.

No. You're in control of what you share and when. Some people find it helpful to talk about their experiences in detail, others prefer to focus on how they're affected now. Your counsellor will gently guide you through this process.

Yes, if that's important to you. Whatever matters to you is part of who you are. Whether faith is a source of strength, something complicated, or not part of your life at all, you're welcome here. Many of our counsellors share similar backgrounds to our clients and understand different perspectives.

That's completely fine. Counselling works at your pace. Your counsellor will never push you to discuss anything you're not ready for. Building safety and trust comes first

Up to 24 sessions. This gives you real time to do meaningful therapeutic work without feeling rushed.

We'll discuss this with you as you approach the end of your sessions. We can explore other options or extensions where possible.

Practical Questions

Are sessions online or in person?

We offer both. You can choose what feels most comfortable and practical for you. In person sessions take place in Tower Hamlets (London), although you don't have to be a resident of Tower Hamlets to access in person counselling. If you can travel to the locations in Tower Hamlets that we offer counselling at, we will do our best to facilitate in person sessions.

Yes, counselling is confidential with very limited exceptions (if we're concerned about immediate risk to you or someone else, and other exceptions). Your counsellor will explain this fully in your first session.

Yes, you're always in control. If counselling isn't feeling right, we can discuss adjustments or alternatives. Ending counselling is your choice, and we'll support you to end well when you're ready.

This is really important to tell us. The relationship with your counsellor matters, and if it's not working, we can discuss other options. Sometimes it takes a few sessions to settle in, but if you're genuinely uncomfortable, we want to know.

Yes. Many clients receive both counselling and support from our advocacy team, or counselling and legal advice. We can coordinate to provide joined-up support.

We understand that life is complicated and things come up. We work with you as best we can. Consistency helps therapy work, and we will support you to find ways to attend. Occasional missed sessions where this is unavoidable will be managed compassionately.
